Studies have shown that, if the Detroit companies go under, it is not only the automobile industry that suffers. Along with the corporate offices and manufacturing plants, the companies that supply the plants, dealerships, service shops, and even the restaurants the employees frequent, will certainly lose business and employees. With more people out of work, this economic recession will only continue to decline.

When the Wall Street executives requested to be GIVEN $700 billion in support to keep their businesses alive, that request was graciously honored. Why should a substantially smaller LOAN be withheld and placed under such scrutiny? I agree that the companies need to restructure their spending habits and consider alternative approaches to current policies, but this does not need to all be completed and sent through 10,000 committee hearings before an answer is reached. By then, it will be too late, and our domestic vehicle companies will have been sacked too hard to prevent serious injury to our hurting economy.
