This was another case of everyone out for themselves... from the UAW to congressmen, etc. Attached to the bailout were some public transit regulations, and a pay increase for judges, so some congress people opposed it because of those additions. Why were they there in the first place?!?!?!?!
As for the UAW not making salary concessions, its important to remember it was the Union leaders that make that decision, not the man on the line. I'm sure if you went up to people in the factory and gave them a choice, they would definitely take a pay cut over no job at all.
The best part is, if GM goes Ch11, they get to tank the union contract and tell them to go pound sand... That means they will lose their pay anyway and go down to whatever GM offers to pay them. (Assuming GM can survive it).
Smart move... idiots.
