My grandpa will be 91 in september. Hearing him talk about that stuff is pretty cool. He still remembers everything as if it was yesterday. They gave him a sword for an award he got and he had a typed letter that allowed him to carry it on the ship back to America. He said one of the last days in Japan they ran into a warehouse full of brand new weapons. He grabbed a rifle, a sword and headed to the office. They put the letter back in the typewriter and added a S to swords and added "and rifle" to the end. He's still got the letter. Its amazing the stuff you could get away with back then.
