2. When the PT Cruiser went on sale in March 2000 as an early 2001 model, eager buyers flocked to dealerships to snap up the first copies — and they were willing to pay well above the sticker price.

3. The PT Cruiser was, and the new Camaro is, styling-wise, like nothing else on the road, and that made it a head turner.

4. Both the Camaro and the PT Cruiser have been noted as having excessive blind-spots.

Here are a few comments regarding the PT Cruiser from both the major magazines and the common person on the street:

Sounds eerily familiar to many of the things said about the Camaro, doesn't it?

I only say all of this because, back then, the PT Cruiser was the "cool" car to buy and I was in the market. Thankfully, I did not buy one, as I very quickly grew tired of the styling on the car and, after spending a lot of time with a co-worker who did buy one, found out it was not as much fun to drive/ride in as I thought it would be.

That is one of my fears in choosing my next car. I'm seriously considering a Camaro, but I'm afraid the styling might become "dated" before I am able to pay the car off.
Big difference between the cars is that the the PT Cruiser was nothing but a novelty car. Like all novelty cars, once the novelty (i.e. the new and different) wear off, you are left with what the car actually is.

In the case of the Camaro, it is a great sports/muscle car in addition to its eye catching styling. So even after the "new" of the Camaro's design wears off, it is still an awesome car in other respects. The PT Cruiser?...that was just a Dodge Neon surrounded by briefly interesting styling, and nothing else.
