The Government is not getting a controlling interest in GM, they are getting stock, just like you or me would get on the open market. Barack Obama is not going to be sitting in on the next product planner meeting telling them what to do. That's Socialism, and while politically I feel today's current Democratic party and president elect has a socialist slant, taking that kind of control IS socialism and the companies nor the American people would not stand for it, and even they (the democrats) aren't that radical. With any luck the Government could even make a few bucks off of this should GM return to profitability.

At least the UAW (which is a relic of the early 1900s and should be eliminated) realizes that its better to have some jobs than none at all. Hopefully they will stop screwing the American companies so they can price their product more competitively and still make some sort of profit. Unions are for a time when there were no laws or guidelines for employers. That time is long gone!

And yes the Gov't bailed out Chrysler in the 70's with a loan which Chrysler managed to pay back early.
