Well, if it was a bad batch of parts it should have been caught sometime before they were installed. And if it wasn't, then Toyota didn't do the proper engineering to get the right safety factor for the parts.

Smaller numbers ... did you happen to notice that this is exclusive to the Lexus brand who only sold 910k units in the US for the 3 affected model years?
