Yeah, the 545 is getting a little long in the tooth. The problem is that Cerberus didn't want to spend any money while the owned chrysler so they cancelled the contract with getrag for a 6 speed. Now Fiat has to do something but it'll take a few years to get one banged out and tested.
In the mean time the 545 is a very reliable transmission so there's no great reason to try and use something else until the new 7 and 8 speeds are ready.
