Why would push button cost more? Existing keys are proximity keys. You cant make a copy and start your car without the right key. You can start it with a copy if you have an original close by. Only difference I know of is one uses a button and one uses the cylinder lock. Seems the push button would cost a lot less to produce than a locking cylinder. I haven't had push button since a '49 Chevy pickup, and that was a huge button on the floor that mechanically engaged the starter solanoid. You had to have one foot on the brake or clutch and the other on the starter and throttle at the same time.
