Yes, it is that displacement thing that always wins in the low-mid range, and in the case of the LS-series of engines, good high rpm torque too. However, torque by itself doesn't tell the story (you can have 1000 lb/ft of torque and not move - think torque wrench). It is torque * rpm that tells the tale.
