Bleeding edge graphics is for the PC market. Consoles launch on year+ old technology, and sit on it for years to come. But the reason they can get away with this is that they don't have the overhead of an operating system running in the background, tying up system resources and running other applications, which has the effect of making 3 year old hardware handle like 1 year old hardware.

/sigh yeah I guess you're right there. My inner geek just wants to see what a new playstation/xbox could do with graphics. The graphics are getting close to being photorealistic, but not quite there yet. And then, of course, make it into a freaking holodeck style display and my nerdgasm will be complete
