I bought a 2001 Buick Century and drove it last winter after driving V-8 Camaros in the snow for over two decades. It was really good in the snow. I thought about a used SUV also. Here is why I bought the Buick. I got a one owner Buick with 51,000 miles on it in excelent shape for $5,000.00 I have no regrets.
1. Buicks are old people's cars and old people take care of their cars and do not beat the bag out of them and generally have all of the services performed.
2. In my travels, I see lots of Buicks just like mine even though they stopped making them a few years ago. This tells me that they are durable.
3. I get 20 MPG in town and 30 MPG on the highway.
4. I can get it serviced or repaired at the Chevrolet dealer that I bought my 2010 1SS at.
5. Front wheel drive equals traction in the snow.
6. I can go to the mall or Wallmart in it and not have the angst about parking that a lot of the posters on here have. I do not need to park it in BFE, or hog two spots.
7. Winter in Boston eats cars. I took really good care of my last three Camaros but they still looked a little scruffy around the edges from the winter driving.
8. A set of wheels and tires for your car are expensive, why not just get a winter rig?
9. The poster above that is telling you to buy tires and wheels has a six cylinder not a V-8. I am sure that a six cylinder is much easier to get traction in than the V-8's are. My 02 SS had trouble starting on flat land in the snow.
10. My Buick has been dead reliable. I put 10,000 miles on her last year and the only operating costs were oil changes and a tire rotation.
