Ok this has turned into a little bit more of a rant than I intended but I feel very strongly about this. I hope I didn't step on any toes and I apologize if I did as that was not my intention.

That didn't sound like a rant at all. It sounded like someone who wants to influence policy and probably already has. It is really important for people to be involved in the system, and most people don't know how much power a letter, email, or call has.
