The stock 5.0 still matches your peak torque at 3,000 rpm's. Peak torque is right in the middle of the rpm range @ about 4,000 rpm. That's why it's geared "short." If it's your preference though to have great low end torque, pushrod + big displacement is the way to go unless we're talking forced induction.

wait my torque or a Camaro's torque?
the 5.0 seems to be my 4.6 on steroids........same power curve, just.......more power........and higher up in the RPM band.
don't get me wrong my car rips.....but my throttle ramp rate is at 100% and the tune is pretty manipulated to make it feel like it has more low end grunt than it really does. but if i floor it at like 2500 rpm in 2nd gear, pretty much nothing happens.
my dad drives a 2008 Mercedes CLS550.......now THAT has some low end shove. using the manumatic, put it in even 3rd at 1500 rpm and it'll still pull.......it apparently makes peak torque from 1750 to 5k rpms or something ridiculous. i realize its a 7 speed and therefore the gearing is short but still..........its just got a different feel to it.
