Wow. How hard would it be to say "Yes, I'll take $1 a year" if it would save their companies.

They are greedy SOB's that deserve all to get voted out/fired/replaced since they know what the alternative is for their companies.. They would rather cut salaries, cut out bonuses and see their companies go bankrupt with thousands losing their jobs before doing what would be good for the company.
