The map isn't bad once you get used to it. I usually set a way point to help me get to my destinations. You can also set a way point and then go into your kit and select your campsite to save. When you do, it will give you the option to quick travel to your destination, if it's a place you have previously visited. If you aren't worried about a bounty being placed on your head then you should hogtie a saloon girl and dump her on the train tracks. When the train runs her over you'll get an achievement. I did it one night after I was finished playing and had saved my game. That way I wasn't worried about the bounty or loss of honor in case someone witnessed it.
