I wish some of the critics of GM's aid were dependent on the auto industry for employment. You seem completely unaffected by the lives that will be ruined by the loss of their employer and the lack of available work in the foreseeable future. Burger King is not adequate employment for people with families, ambitions, and experience in the auto industry.
We aren't in it just for the Camaro. That's the unifier on this very diverse site, but that isn't why we buy domestic. My parents bought the Subaru I drive because they believed it was the best product for the price at the time. It was a bad decision, and I regret their choice. Now, my mom drives a Dodge Caliber, my sister drives a Chevy Cobalt, and I used to also drive a Cobalt. My dad is still stuck in his Forester until he can afford something better. In any case, Camaro5 members support American companies because we believe in American products. We build these products, pay taxes on these products, and show pride in the heritage of these products. We want GM to continue to succeed because we believe in GM's products, not because we're selfish. GM is greener, has higher quality, and is domestic when compared to imports. Why shouldn't we protect it? It keeps the money in our country, builds quality products, and has green products that are good for the environment.

Preachin' to the choir, dude. I have 4 cars in the garage right now, and all of them are domestics. I, too, would prefer that Ford, GM and Chrysler all survive and continue to make cars.
What I am not willing to do is allow my tax dollars to go to organizations that have done a piss poor job of running their businesses and got themselves into the mess they are in today. Some of you can't see the forrest for the trees. Where do you think all this government money is coming/will come from that is being used to bail out/loan all of these failing businesses? It's going to come in the form of higher taxes on all of us and that rate is never going to decrease. In the long run, it will cost all of us more if we do this bail out for any of the big 3. It is never in the best interest of a country that is based on a capitalist economic system to have the government deciding what businesses will succeed and which will fail. The market will determine that.
Do you think this is the first time in history that an industry that employs a large segment of the population has been in dire straights? Heck no, and in some cases, those businesses failed and hundreds of thousands/millions of people had to seek new lines of work or relocate to areas where their skill sets were in demand. If the big 3 do get this loan, it only delays their demise, it does not prevent it, unless the way these companies are managed is changed.
