For only so long before they would have to find a job. And as far as retraining, that should be on their dime, not taxpayers. Walmart, Burger King, etc. all have excellent benefits and a good training program.
Oh well. let the chips fall where they may.
Yeah, I am aware and have stated it elsewhere. I just use GM because it's so near and dear to so many people on this site. I swear, too many people on here would rather see GM be bailed out so they can get a Camaro then give a crap what it would mean, long term to the American taxpayer, to do so.

Not everyone has full-time work. Many employers will only hire so many full-time employees. This funding is sometimes essential when a family needs to pay for a child's college or basic lifestyle. It is feasible to assume that some of GM's employees are part-time workers that make less than the aforementioned amount per year. One income is not always enough.
I wish some of the critics of GM's aid were dependent on the auto industry for employment. You seem completely unaffected by the lives that will be ruined by the loss of their employer and the lack of available work in the foreseeable future. Burger King is not adequate employment for people with families, ambitions, and experience in the auto industry.
We aren't in it just for the Camaro. That's the unifier on this very diverse site, but that isn't why we buy domestic. My parents bought the Subaru I drive because they believed it was the best product for the price at the time. It was a bad decision, and I regret their choice. Now, my mom drives a Dodge Caliber, my sister drives a Chevy Cobalt, and I used to also drive a Cobalt. My dad is still stuck in his Forester until he can afford something better. In any case, Camaro5 members support American companies because we believe in American products. We build these products, pay taxes on these products, and show pride in the heritage of these products. We want GM to continue to succeed because we believe in GM's products, not because we're selfish. GM is greener, has higher quality, and is domestic when compared to imports. Why shouldn't we protect it? It keeps the money in our country, builds quality products, and has green products that are good for the environment.
