Put bluntly, Track Package or not the GT is going to be slower in a straight line, the 3.73:1 gears will help but only so much and obviously not nearly enough to overcome the rather large difference in hp and tq. In terms of handling and braking, a Track Package equipped Mustang GT wont ride as well as a Camaro SS since IRS is inherently better here than SRA is for obvious reasons, but high tech, spec sheet, eye-candy aside ultimate handling numbers for the Mustang GT with the Track Package likely will be better than what the SS turns in so long as the road doesn't turn really bumpy, and for some that will make a difference.

Put simply, I think this all depends on where your hot buttons are. For those who want a V8 ponycar and for whom 300hp is enough, and particularly for whom price is a hot button, Mustang without Track Package is probably going to win out. For those who want more than 300hp but who don't want to drop the coin for a SRT8 Dodge or GT500.......Camaro has that locked until 2011. I'm just glad we only have to live with a Chevy hp advantage for one year this go 'round.
