Here was the reply i had gotten from my senator Sherrod Brown:
Dear Mr. Sox:
Thank you for expressing your views on providing financial assistance to the automobile industry.
The economic downturn and the crisis in our financial markets have hurt the domestic automobile industry and its workforce. The auto industry accounts for more than 100,000 jobs in Ohio. Failing to help automakers at this time of great economic uncertainty would have disastrous consequences for our state.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Speaker Nancy Pelosi recently sent a letter to Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson urging him to consider using the funds approved in the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act (EESA) to provide temporary assistance to the automobile industry. I hope Secretary Paulson will act on their request.
I am working with my colleagues to provide responsible help to the auto industry to prevent even greater economic dislocation to Ohioans. I strongly support restrictions to executive pay and bonuses as a condition for government help. In addition, I will fight for provisions that will keep auto industry jobs in this country. Ohio has already lost too many jobs abroad – this funding must include safeguards against outsourcing.
Thank you again for contacting me. I will certainly keep your views in mind as the Senate continues to discuss ways to aid the struggling U.S. auto industry.
Sincerely,
Sherrod Brown
