That's right and its NOT OK for GM to sell-out and allow itsself to be manipulated by government and its NOT OK for the govt to do that. Of course the govt should expect a return on the investment if its handing about our money, but it shouldn't try to force the industry in a certain direction.

Unfortunately there are those in government who see this disaster as another opportunity to get more control...not to "help" GM sell us the cars that "we" want, but to make them make the cars that "they" think we should have. That's not freedom or a free market. As for "making things profitable"...

Things that AREN'T profitable that the government wants people to buy get SUBSIDIES and TAX BREAKS which create a market that shouldn't exist. If someone makes a PROFIT off of something that requires a SUBSIDY, that means that the profit is being paid for by TAX payers. There is no "real profit". In the real-world things that are profitable get TAXED. Things that are profitable that the government doesn't like get TAXED and PENALIZED like cars with Gas Guzzler status. The MARKET should decide what's available and not the government. That way we vote with our dollars and we don't have to ask permission from Papa Gobierno.
