I recommend merging this thread with all the following: this thread, this thread, this thread, and this thread.
As long as my post below gets merged in the mix It took some time to write it...I want to see GM make it thru this and I do hope whatever happens, the best possible outcome for America is what occurs. We've all read many posts on both sides of the isle of those who want all out Government bailout and those that don't as well as people like me who want a mixture of the two or somewhere in the middle. All 6,000 pre-orders are in the books and at the very least is something positive for GM and the future of the company. With better leadership and a smarter direction, the company can and will survive.

This is the main problem. We as the people will never decide how the company would be run if the Government is in total control even though I wish it were that way. What the government should do is take over the health insurance for the retired employee's as they will be the most affected by this as well as the warranty's of existing vehicles. GM is too big a brand to die out completely and has many assets including a large workforce, factories, and technology that are still useful. Unfortunately I don't know what would be the best choices for the company even if the Government did bail them out, however I can only imagine what an Obama white house would do with such a large growth in Government run private organizations. Taxes would go up to not only fund the car industry and it retiree's but go up to run "universal healthcare' which is just down the road and many other wealth re-distribution programs.

My opinion is that the US Government is getting too close to being 100% socialistic and all these bailouts are simply the first steps to achieving that goal. Freddie Mac and Fannie May were giving out huge amounts of money to Senator's for their support and support they did receive for many years. The Government did get them into the financial mess they were in by forcing them to give out loans they would never have so I agree the Government should have fixed the situation. However at a great cost since now we are all paying for its mistakes and we voted into office the people that caused those mistakes to occur. I do pray for this country and for all those who's jobs are on the line and healthcare plans on the line. I want to see GM pull thru this and filing for bankruptcy may be the only way without Government money this could happen.

If the Government does bail out GM, then I do hope we the people do get to decide what's best for the company and not some bureaucrats with an agenda of global warming carbon credits. And I'll say again, I want to see the Government pay back all the hard work GM employees accomplished during "war contracts" and everything else by keeping existing health benefits intact for retirees and those yet to have retired that are ten years away or less. All the people directly affected by a bankruptcy that currently work for the company and those retired should be helped by Government money as they deserve our help. Again, I pray the right choices are made and GM survives this whichever way possible. If it is by Government bailout, I do pray that fad is correct and that we the people get to decide how we want things run and not a certain group of government with an ideology that has helped cause these problems.
