Right...but they're very very very very close.

The new TVS (Twin Vortices Series) units from Eaton/Magnuson are nearly as efficient as an eqivilant-boost turbocharger. When tuned properly, people are actually noticing fuel-mileage increases. They've got a 160° twist on a 4-lobe "rotor" in addition to a bypas valve for low-rpm cruising (1/3 hp to spin at cruise). So all in all, the parasitic loss of the belt on these units is roughly equivilant to the parasitic loss of compressed exhaust gases in a turbo system. They really are a neat design.
