Ok..the thread is kind of dumb, but hey I'm bored.
Aside from the basics, many of which have been mentioned FORD really went all out on the 5.0...take the heads for instance...they flow better than anything else Ford has, including the 5.0 Cammer head. 4V..varibable valve timing ect..
Generally the higher you can rev a given displacement, while not choking it off...the higher the peak power will be...Also don't forget the little things....like the electric power steering on the Mustang that minimizes parasitic losses.
Set up an LS3/L99 that breathes at 6500+ and the numbers will be well over the current 426 HP...why didn't GM do this? IMO Because they didn't need. The HP race is a marathon...they have to pace themselves...and at 426HP the LS3 Camaro was and still is top dog out of the 3 cars HP wise. So why would they wring out the LS3 Camaro rat off the bat? Makes no sense.
This question reminds me of when the ATV guys wonder why XYZ company makes over 100 HP with an 800 CC engine in their snomobiles and that same company's 800cc engine only puts out 70HP in their ATVs..when 70 HP is the top dog in an ATV this year do they really need to set it up to make 100 for next years model?
