As I understand it GM wanted to promote its brands like Chevy, Buick, etc over the GM brand so they stopped putting the chicklet on in the Fall of 2009. Use search to find a related thread for more discussion on this.
Its a matter of choice - some like it as it was part of the original equipment (OE) and others like me wanted to remove it to make the car lines cleaner. You can still tell an early Camaro from the current ones by the rear parking assist sensors (and obviously the VIN).
If you want them and don't have them you can order them from the Dealer. I kept mine in the growing box of OE parts I've replaced with after-market parts (for a future buyer if they want them).
