You have the cross game chat option (open a chat session with a friend and talk to him, even if the two of you are playing different games)

The game/party invites are nice (if you're not currently playing the game you got invited to, accepting the invite will automatically launch the game and put you into the party, ready to rock - as long as you have the game disc in the xbox)

Xbox Live parties enable you to talk to multiple friends, who could be playing different games, and you can shoot a game invite to all the people in your xbox live party to quickly get a match of whatever together.

Again, every now and then something messes up with those, but they are very nice when they work. Does PSN have similar functionality?
