Worth mentioning, at least one of those payments was made possible by funds given to them in the bailout. The other, I haven't looked into it and since GM doesn't have to tell us where it came from I might not be able to find out if I did.
There is absolutely no way to know whether GM is profitable right now because they aren't publicly traded and, as such, don't have to report very much publicly. The notion that they are profitable because they are moving sheet-metal isn't a very good indicator either since GM was losing money at an alarming rate for years pre-bankruptcy despite being a huge corporation in terms of volume.
My take, if GM's financial situation was as rosy as some here suggest GM would almost certainly be more forthcoming with that information since the same would represent good press for obvious reasons.
