well I have some news to tell you and some of it's good some of it or well most of it' bad.I'm still in basic training at Fort Knox,KY and during the begining of the 5th week i was running and i tore my mederial minsicus and ACL in my right knee.I had surgery done about 2 wks ago, intial pain was bad but I'm currently on 3wks of convolesance leave, that's why I have access to a computer.I've been told by the surgeon that it takes roughly 6-8 months to heal and even longer to get back to almost where you were due to the muscle won't fully recover.
The tear in my acl and mederial miniscus isn't bad it's not a full tear. After 5-6 days on crutches I was actually able to walk on it.Slowly mind you,i couldn't run or even speed walk, but that was BEFORE the surgery.
I have told the doctor that i want to continue training and I've been told that i'm gonna get medically discharged which I know is a possibilty by seemingly without fail people(other privates who i run into going back and forth from the hospital on the bus who are in basic like me)
I'm currently going through physical therapy and i will continue to do so until i can get better but as many of yall know that before i entered basic i had done alot of work to get my body like loosing 150lbs so that something like this wouldn't have likely happened but other than that I was kinda bumed when i couldn't qualify with the m4 cuz i got a profile (due to my injury) that said i couldn't do certain things and also i couldn't do the kneeling positions in order to properly fire and qualify on the m4.
I did get to watch 2 people shoot an AT-4 which is a rocket launcher like a RPG.WHOO!!!!!!!!!! DAMN the back blast from that thing!!!!!
I return May 8th and the clock is ticking because the Armor school is moving to fort benning,ga by the end of 2011.If I want to graduated at Ft. knox the healing process has to be done quickly as possible. That's the quandry that i'm in.
In the physical and rehap training platoon that's on base the majority of the privates there aren't as optimistic as I am,by rights I should have the same negative mentality but I don't,It's hard but I think I'll make it.It's just like I was climbing a mountain and a gust of wind knocked me down to the base and I gotta climb back up.I was placed bfore my injury in A CO 2-81 Armor 3rd platoon now if anyone wants to snail mail write me here's my address
