The camaro produced the best lap times in all the comparisons I have read. It just doesnt "FEEL" as agile as the mustang....it is a bigger car. Also the slalom and figure 8 tests reflect this. The bigger car is not going to be as good in transitions. But these tests alone do net tell the entire story (not that the camaro did bad in these, just not as well as the TRACK PACK enhanced mustang). The camaros lap times show that it is capable.
Part of the reason the 10 maro beat the 10 GT in the lap times I am sure was because of the power advantage. But the camaro is not a bad handling sports car like some like to say. Especially when the stock springs and sways are changed...the car can really carve.
If GM really wanted to compete with the mustang with the handling I dont know why they dont include a track pack like the mustang. The base price would still be the same. And like I said different springs and sways make it a whole new car...chevy was too conservative in this department.
