Covering what up.....I'm still waiting for evidence that I'm wrong. (there isn't any) I said a base SS would weigh in at about 3870lb, GM claims 3860lb. I said a base SS with an auto trans would come in right on top of 4000lb, and GM claims 3913lb which still has me within 90lb of what the manufacturer claims. And then I said a loaded SS automatic would top out over 4000lb.....and I would be willing to bet the sunroof alone manages that feat.
All of that is correct. I never interjected any thing about what people racing the car would order because, frankly, it doesn't matter. If base cars are what you want to compare then the reality is that a base 2011 Mustang GT is easily going to come in around 300lb less even after you account for increased standard options and the slightly heavier drive-line.

. Ah yes, I forgot to memorize the Camaro order options before I posted. Of course, that changes absolutely nothing about my comments regarding what the Camaro weighs. Base V8 trim, as light as an SS gets, this is a 3900lb car. I'm not making a value judgement on whether the car should or shouldn't weigh that much one way or the other, and my opinion wouldn't change what the car actually weighs if even if I did. But if you want to compare cars weight is an issue which affects handling and acceleration, that is just how it is.

Lat I checked sales of virtually everything weren't too great. But prior to the economic slowdown Mustang sales were trending about 150k per year with little to no rebates. I can't even remember the last time an American auto maker managed the same with a 2-door coupe, and the reality is that Dodge and Chevy both decided...and rightly so....that they wanted a piece of the action.
