Yes... while there are alcoholics in every profession from garbage man to cops to surgeons to presidents, it's a totally different thing when it's a cop. There is a double standard.

A person in another profession can just call in sick, technically for that day they are. I'd rather have another pilot fly the plane that I'm on then a drunk one. I'd also rather have an operation delayed for a day then a surgeon screwing up.

Cops, on the other hand are the people who enforce the rules. As such, they should not only enforce them but also serve as role models. They are the ones that shouldn't drive drunk, they are the ones that shouldn't use cell phones while driving, they are the ones that shouldn't be speeding unless they are going to an emergency or chasing someone, they are the ones that shouldn't be driving past red lights, and they are the ones who shouldn't be driving with lights and sirens on to a donut shop to get some cofee, etc. Yet they are the ones who break all of the rules. Honestly... WTF?
