I am roughly the same age as your friend, and 16 is too young -even if it wasn't illegal. He should absolutely run away, and hope there aren't any legal problems. Saying she lied just won't cut it, he's the adult.

You are correct. In Canada as well as most of the US, plus many other nations, 16 is the age of consent. Scary part is, in Canada it was raised to 16 less than 2 years ago. Used to be 14. However, their age difference does matter if an individual is less than 18. I believe the allowed difference is 4 years, which is a bit much IMO. There is still a pretty big difference between 16 and 20. Or 14 and 18.
