All I know is that when I turned 8 my parents bought me a bike, which I then proceeded to thrash the s*** out of for the next two months.
That lasted until I bent the frame after a particularly spectacular ramp & crash. I had to save up to pay for the repairs and... once repaired... I wasn't so stupid with my bike anymore. Hmmm.... almost as if since I had to PAY for it, I actually OWNED it and treated it as such. It was a valuable lesson to learn.
