You need some time to find out what areas need improvement. alot of people will say oh well that is what R&D is for, that should be done before it is out. Until the Z28 is out we won't know if the Z28 will be better than the GT500 or vice versa. But look at it this way:
-Challengers came out as 2009 models in 2008 and none of them beat the Mustang lineup in the shootouts.
-Camaros came out as 2010 modles in 2009 and the SS beat the GT in some and lost in some and when it beat the GT it was never by as much as expected by everyone, including me as a previous 2010 SS owner, for a car with a 111 HP advantage, but the GT had yet to get the 5.0 that was highly anticipated. The V6 Camaro stomped the V6 Mustang, but Mustang had yet to get their new V6 in the Mustang and now it will have it and it should be interesting.
But the GT500 stands alone waiting for a match?
The truth is I wouldn't be shocked if the GT500 beat the Z28 when it came out, less weight, better power to weight ratio if all the anticipated facts are facts. Than again I wouldn't be shocked if it were the other way around. Z28 stomps GT500. The reality is that the Z28 should beat the GT500 if you think about. Gm has had more time to work on it and get it right, it can study the enemy up and down by testing the Z28 mules against the GT500, you already know the GT500 weak spots, as well as your own in the SS Camaro. So it could go either way if you think of it that way.
We have learned though that even extensive research and development can not be enough to completely dominate or finish your oppenent. Camaro got the green light in late '06 early '07 has 2 years of testing and better specs everywhere except weight and only manages to sneak away with acceleration victories as it should with a 111 HP. But this is why I say it takes time for a new challenger (not the Dodge) to come in and beat the king!
