You give people WAY too much credit. The average american thinks the Camaro is made by Ford, and cant see past the Toyota + Japan, and will feel the same way about Honda or anything else with a Japanese name. 99% of the car buying public is not as savvy as we are.
And in connecting the dots you missed the fact that Toyota specs the parts to these manufacturers, they also test and approve them. If the part was designed and built within spec of what Toyota requested and approved its their problem.
The feathers aren't going to hit the fan you describe this like its a conpiracy that will stem back on the US and Canada, it won't. Most of the cars recalled were assembled here, which has been pointed out in the news but not prominently, and people don't seem to care.
