very true, but the driving experience is different and there are plenty of areas where that is still important, even if the buyer doesn't know what exactly they'd like. They don't need to be an enthusiast to know that a turbo 4 doesn't sound nearly as nice as a V6, and doesn't feel as nice either. Will this matter in mass market midsize sedans? Probably not. A luxury car? maybe. A sports sedan? Probably. A luxury sports sedan? Yes.
