Years back I had an Iron Duke S-15 for awhile and that thing was just terrible with that engine probably being the low point on what was just a terrible truck (to be fair the price was right and it did manage to last 200k as a work truck). That thing shouldn't even be in the same sentence with the current Ecotec, particularly the 2.0T that puts out two or three times the power.
With that in mind the fact is that every time someone asks for the Camaro to drop a few hundred pounds they are asking for a base turbo four. It's not much of a stretch to think GM might bore out the 2.0T to 2.4T for for around 300 horses. Of course they'll still offer a good old V-8 for many years to come for those with those that crave horsepower and/or that traditional muscle car.
