but 35 MPG is damn nice with a 198HP 2.4L.
The Malibu could achieve this as well. The current 2.4L in the Equinox for instance, in the lighter Malibu, could easily achieve the additional 16 HP and better fuel economy. Currently pushing 33MPG, the DI version of the 2.4L would probably get 36MPG in the Malibu if the Equinox is capable of 32.
Hopefully GM uses lighter Steel in their upcoming vehicles to trim the weight, but not at the cost of the structural integrity they have been achieving over the past few years. A 2 year old Hyundai Sonata owned by my one of my employees has only 23K miles on it and rattles like screws in a can when a bump is hit. My G6 with 100K miles still has its original muted "Thuuump" sound when a bump is hit. If that is indicative of the upcoming 2011 Sonata's weight advantage.... then I'm cool with GM sticking to a lil heft.
Well, the Sonata just got IIHS's Top safety pick designation for 2010 yesterday. Definitely not a "tin can".
