This is tongue in cheek but there are some valauble lessons in here as well....
Hmmm, nervous and stressed out... over a trip???
Roberts rules for travel preparation....
(I didn't follow all of these the last few days....:(
1.) If you gotta do it before you leave, and it doesn't get done
a. it will be there when you get back cause sure as hell, no one else is going to do it...
b. If you go on the trip and come back from the trip, and still have a job and family, then it didn't need to get done before you left in the first place...
2.) You need... a toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, a change of undies, and a passport (if you are leaving the country) The rest is just want stuff...Caveat... Do not pack medications in a checkbag...If your flight gets cancelled and they send you to a hotel, you will not get your bags back...It's happend to me five times already... first time my meds were in the checked baggage...not since...but in each and every case, I had my toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, a change of undies, and my passport
3.) If you forgot it and you can't go back and get it, forget it or buy another one when you get there... I forgot my puter charger this trip, found one in the airport in Dallas, now I have two... and this one is smaller then my original one...Bonus is it's lighter...
4.) Know where you are going, and preferrably print the location out prior to departure with a picture if available, if traveling to a foreign country, they can see or read much more than I can speak of their language...Re-affirmed this week to me... I got comfortable and COMPLACENT in my travel arrangements cause they had been going so well...
5.)If you have to take your cellphone, it's not really a vacation... exceptions to this are in case of leaving children behind.... I prefer in most cases to leave them contact information of where I am going...If there is an emergency, you can't get home any faster than if they call you and leave a message or speak directly to you via a hotel phone... You can't speed up the airline schedule...Harsh sounding but sooo true....
6.) If you pack it, plan on carrying it or dragging it.... I went on a "vacation" years ago with super packer, not the wonderful person I am now married to...
Superpacker emptied the closets... had three large suit cases and two smaller shoulder type bags... Oh, this didn't include the toiletries bag... She had frigg'in shoes for every color combintion of clothes she could come up with...
We went to Cozumel....a beach...(shoes????

) it wasn't a vacation for me....
