Uhm, we do have them in Texas,

There are not too many of them, but they are present... They're like coyotes, you may never see one but they are still around... When I was guiding hunters in the Texas Hill Country, we occasionally saw evidence of them and I know of several of them that were trapped...They are still found in West and South West Texas as well....

Some refer to them correctly or incorrectly as cougars or pumas or panthers...
