The problem with the advice they posted about the brakes and going to neutral is that 2 reports I read(one an Avalon, the other an ES 350), is that when they hit the brakes, the cruise control light simply blinked(these both fell under the "unintended acceleration" issue). When they tried shifting to neutral, the car stayed in drive.
Perhaps its time for Toyota fans to strictly drive manuals so at least the computer can't control the whole drivetrain.
