The Camaro is selling better than it has in years despite virtually no emphasis on handling.

Are your serious?? 1.Actually the V8's in the 4th gen were selling more than the V6's, no car can survive long like that. 2.It is the very first model year!!!! higher performance trim levels come AFTER the initial release. The camaro still has alot of Hype behind it. Also don't confuse owners with enthusiast, Both the bulk of mustang and camaro owners buy pony cars for a quick sporty looking ride. And that is especially true for the mustang since that is its roots. Generaly speaking in contrast to the mustang the camaro place more emphisis on performance.

Really? Most of the major Ford shows across the country involve road course events and Mustangs are always a major portion of that. Saleen founded his company upon the basis of better handling Mustangs, and was embraced for it in his early days. And as we know the Mustang has recently undergone a sort of handling renaissance and has been lauded for the same.

Oh please, sure there are plenty of $50k+ special mustangs out there, but I am refering to the Mustang GT, prior to the 2010 model year the mustangs track performance was terrible (1995-2009)... was there any complaint from the mustang fans... nope, the 2006-2009 Gt-500 had serious handling issues (yes I have driven one on the track) did the mustang fans complain... nope. IN CONTRAST to the constant bickering and bashing of the Camaro by its own fans. I have lost count how many threads were closed, people being dicipline by mods and post deleted by various camaro websites ,because of the camaros weight and Understeer. Ultimately the mustangs handling improvements is the results of GM bringing the heat with the camaro.

On the other hand, the new Camaro is more of a highway cruiser than corner carver, and for the most part we haven't heard much in the way of complaining from the faithful. Are you sure you understand the different demographics here?

Then you should take the Blinders off your eyes, it has been bashed like crazy by its own fans, But I tell them the same thing I tell you. It is the very first model year. Alos what it offers standard is way more than what the 2010 mustang offers standard. But the constant bashing the camaro by its own fans says that improvements is desired, in contrast to the "everything is gray" mindset mustang fans have had for the past 15 years. So it appears you do not understand, or more likely you are acting as if the mustang did not exist prior to 2010 and on the basis of what the 2011 mustang offers you are making a false argument.

Mustang is one of the best handling coupes in anything like the price range on the market without IRS, so why would Mustang enthusiasts be clamoring for change here?

Oh please, for the 2011 Model year sure, I am looking foward to it. BUT Mustang enthusisat for the past 15 years have not been clamoring for better road course performance for the mustang Gt, And the handleing of the mustang GT have been a joke for 15years atleast. In contrast to the 4th Gen equipt with the 1LE package, which was very respectable. Basicaly when speaking of the fan base of both cars, I look it as a whole.

It doesn't reflect in the Camaro.

Hmmmm, Mabye it is because it is the very first model year and higher performance version come after the inital release, thats how all car manufacters do it INCLUDING FORD. for an Example. 2005 new mustang, 2006 GT-500, 2010 Mustang borrows suspensions peices for the GT-500 and gets a "track Pack", 2010 GT-500 handling improvements. The camaro will be the same way, but I doubt it will take GM 5 years to improve the camaro
Though you continue to ignore that point. Your ignoring the fact that it is the very first model year and your ASSUMPTION that the camaro is at present is as good as it it going to get until the 6th gen camaro is silly.

You actually think Ford built a factory drag car that isn't street legal for the enthusiasts? It's a race car, built for racing. GM sponsors NASCAR race cars, does that mean they don't care about other racing series?
No that was not my point.
