There is nothing illegal about looking in your garage. No supervisor would ever take a complaint for that.
Tracking you down? Simple and legal. Sometimes stories differ...and I'll say that my grandpa has seen lights waaaaay back behind him before and turned off the interstate to see if they follow...mm hmm... Regardless, there are two sides to the story. Not to be a jerk and side w/ anyone here...because I'm not doing that...I'd have to hear both.
Sounds like he was trying to stop you (which you admitted you might have speeding) and he tried to get to you, but could not safely do so. Now, what I'm curious is how he got your plate....if he got it that night or if it were the other officer who happened to see it and say, "hey! this coullllld be it."
If you would have said "yes. That was me. I saw you. I took off. I'm sorry." You'd be expecting a warrant to come out.
No...he couldn't have given you a ticket right then and there....but I'd be more worried about felony evading in a vehicle over a minor speeding ticket.
