It's funny how many 4wd, and awd vehicles you see in the ditch around here. Everybody thinks "oh i have 4wd/awd, i am invincible in inclement weather!" And then crashes.
The only thing 4wd/awd does for you, IS GET YOU STUCK FASTER!

GIVE ANYBODY a 4WD/AWD in the same situation and try the same. Guess what 98% of people will do? That's right, they will try to go through the same hazard they avoided earlier.
Just look at mudding or rock climbing, would you even attempt that in a RWD truck (even with an LSD)?

4WD/AWD helps you get moving easier. That's about it. People seem to think that because they have 4WD or AWD they can drive the same speed they always drive when there is snow and ice on the road. If all 4 tires are sliding, you're still screwed.
And also, I drove a lil Ford Focus through a nasty winter last year, and my Scion has gone through some interesting weather already this year. Both FWD and both do pretty awesome in this weather. The only times I've had issues was when the road was 98% ice, which 4WD and AWD wouldn't have helped with anyway.

Just gotta know how to drive in the stuff really.
