Often if the car doesn't go into production, elements from these exercises will. Whether it is technology, exterior, or interior they often serve as inspiration for what we may see in a few years. Additionally, they will often draw attention to the brand and create buzz. Lastly, creative types wither and die if engineers and bean counters constantly tell them to scale it back.
