I don't remember what all happened to OU but I remember well that Okie St was literally on the edge of the Death Penalty. We lost half of our scholarships, all of our TV rights, and were under very close scrutiny for many years.
I remember that times got so bad that the college and local newpaper advertised team tryouts on certain days for walk ons. I also remember after the probation was over that many of the recruits still didn't want to go there because the program wasn't anything. We didn't have the luxury of being a storied program like OU, Alabama, or USC.
