Why would you not want to appeal to younger people? It's just a concept and firing the young people to make sure the designs stay 'older' sounds like a good way to turn GMC into Oldsmobile.
As far as looking like an Xb. The Xb is a really space efficient vehicle. There's only so much you can do with that shape and retain the small interior/large interior relationship.
