Plus those numbers appear to be grossly under rated. It says the towing capacity is 3500lbs, but in this review they drove one through the desert towing a 5000lb trailer and they said it did great.
A stronger engine will help with towing, but not vehicle capacity. Towing capacity varies greatly with drive train selection, but the non-towing capacity stays fairly constant and actually decreases with anything that adds weight to the truck, like larger engines or 4 wheel drive. If you add 200 lbs of engine, you need to remove 200 lbs of payload capacity. You might gain 500 lbs towing but you can't put as much stuff in the truck itself.
