There's a reason that every time GM shows a concept car in its ads, there's a little asterisk that reads: Concept car shown. Production model may vary.
The concept was as aerodynamic as a brick. Bob Lutz said himself that it would probably have better aerodynamics if the entire car was turned around backwards. So I'm not sure how you got "sleek" and "sporty" out of the concept because that thing would've accelerated slower than a toyota yaris with six Christmas trees tied to the roof.
The production Volt is optimized for aerodynamics to maximize the electric-only range. If the concept was to be produced, such a large amount of electricity would go to just propelling the car through the air that E-Flex drive would be pointless.
