Adding the 12's gives you an advantage in the lower frequencies that 10's tend not to produce well. However, it really depends on the size of the trunk. if you just add more subs you could just be intriducing more noise. Air space is the key for subs!
If you add them do this: Throw everything below 100 hz to the 12's, 100 - 250 hz to the 10's, and everything else to your interior speakers. That will decrease the unwanted frequencies in the subs allowing them to produce the lower sounds more efficiently.
