I have avoided talking about my recent stops because I have been lucky and feel guilty gloating. I have also used a simple thing called commmon sense. Regardless of the jurisdiction you must remain respectful and own your decision. No matter how much you may dislike a law or the person enforcing it you will not get far being a prick. From my experiences I have been doing something wrong each and every time. Cops can have bad days too, take the ticket without arguing and resolve it in court if you feel it was unjust. Let me say I am mainly referring to traffic laws. I am not an attorney nor do I wish to be one.
IMO one other thing that has been an asset for me is a concealed handgun license. I'm not starting the pro 2amend here I am just saying I think it has helped with the leo's initial impression. It at least shows them that at the time of the issuance I was not a felon. It don't say jack about being a leadfoot though!
